IDC Communications Service Contract
TotalCare+ TERMS & CONDITIONS

These Terms and Conditions apply to the Service Contract offered by IDC Communications and constitute the entire agreement between the purchaser and IDC Communications regarding the extended warranty coverage described herein.

1. Coverage and Scope

Subject to the conditions outlined below, IDC Communications will, upon approval of a valid claim, repair or replace your device if it is found to have

  • A manufacturer’s defect, or
  • Sustained physical or liquid damage that the device reasonably should have withstood based on the product claims made by the original device manufacturer, and such defects or damage materially impairs the proper functioning of the device.

If the device cannot be repaired, IDC Communications will, at its sole discretion, replace it with either:

  • The same model, or
  • A comparable model, meaning a device of the same manufacturer, the same product tier (for example, Pro, Plus, or Base), matching or greater storage capacity, and the same or a newer generation.
  • Replacement devices may be new or IDC Communications Certified Refurbished, each of which is inspected, tested, and warranted to the same functional standard.
  • Colour is provided where available but is not guaranteed.

2. Covered Physical and Liquid Damages

Covered damages are limited to physical or liquid damage that the device should reasonably have been able to withstand, in accordance with the manufacturer’s durability claims. Eligible damages include:

  1. Cracked screen or damaged phone casing resulting from a drop onto a solid surface from a height of no more than 1 meter.
  2. Damaged camera following a drop onto a sold surface from a height of no more than 1 meter.
  3. Device buttons rendered inoperative following a drop onto a solid surface from a height of no more than 1 meter.
  4. Liquid damage due to splashing or submersion in water of up to 1 meter in depth for a maximum of 30 minutes.
  5. Devices that fell into snow and were exposed for a maximum of 30 minutes

3. Limitations of Coverage

  • The Service Contract is a limited warranty, not an insurance policy.
  • It applies exclusively to the original end-user purchaser and is non-transferable, except where explicitly permitted under these terms.
  • The Contract covers only the device identified by the serial number listed on the original proof of purchase.
  • Unauthorized modifications or repairs by any party other than IDC Communications or the original manufacturer will void this Service Contract.
  • The Service Contract is non-refundable, non-transferable, and has no cash value, unless otherwise stated herein.

4. Contract Term, Claims and Replacement Limits

  • Coverage begins on the date of purchase of the Contract as shown on the original proof of purchase and continues until the one-year anniversary of that date.
  • There is no limit on the number of approved repair claims during the term of the Service Contract.
  • However, the number of device replacements allowed under this Contract is limited to 1 within each year of TotalCare+ coverage purchased.
  • If a device submitted for repair is deemed unrepairable at IDC Communications’ sole discretion, the claim will be converted to a replacement and will count toward the replacement limit for the contract term. The customer will be notified before the replacement is processed.
  • A replacement issued under this Contract does not extend or restart the Contract term. Coverage continues for the remainder of the original one-year term as measured from the original Contract purchase date.

5. Exclusions

The Service Contract does not cover the following:

  1. Damage resulting from abuse, misuse, neglect, or intentional acts (e.g., damage caused by lawnmowers, machinery, etc.).
  2. Damage arising from failure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
  3. Damage resulting from unauthorized repairs or alterations.
  4. Damage caused by prolonged or repeated exposure to industrial chemicals, battery acid, bleach, fuel, solvents, or other highly corrosive substances not typically encountered in residential or recreational use. For clarity, incidental exposure to chlorinated pool water, saltwater, or similar substances is not excluded under this provision and is assessed under Section 2 (Covered Physical and Liquid Damages).
  5. Damage due to electrical power surges.
  6. Damage caused by natural disasters or other external forces, including but not limited to lightning, flood, fire, or other acts beyond IDC Communicatiosn’ reasonable control.
  7. Devices with illegible or removed serial numbers.
  8. Loss or theft of the device.
  9. Cosmetic damage that does not affect the device’s functionality, such as minor scratches, scuffs, or paint chipping from normal handling (normal wear and tear).
  10. Damage to accessories, peripheral devices, or external components.
  11. Any damage not specifically listed under the section titled “Covered Physical and Liquid Damages”.

6. Repair Turnaround and Loaner Devices

Most approved repair claims are completed the same business day. Where the required parts are not in stock, or where the repair requires extended diagnostic or technical time, IDC Communications will provide the customer with an estimated completion timeline at the time the claim is opened.

If the estimated repair timeline exceeds one business day, IDC Communications will offer the customer a loaner device for the duration of the repair, at no additional cost, subject to reasonable availability at the servicing location and signing of a standard loaner device agreement. The loaner device remains the property of IDC Communications and must be returned in good working condition upon collection of the repaired device. The customer is responsible for any damage or loss to the loaner device beyond normal use.

7. Customer Data Responsibility

It is the customer’s responsibility to back up all data, applications, contacts, photos, messages, settings, account credentials, and any other information stored on the device prior to submitting it for service under this Contract.

IDC Communications is not responsible for the loss, corruption, or alteration of any data, applications, settings, or content that may occur during the inspection, repair, or replacement process. In the course of servicing a device, the device may be reset to factory default settings, and some or all stored data may be permanently erased.

8. Final Provisions

This Service Contract is valid only during the defined term and in accordance with the conditions described herein. It is governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the original purchase was made.

IDC Communications reserves the right to update or amend these Terms and Conditions at any time. Any such changes will not affect the coverage or limitations already established under existing Service Contracts.
